Materials
7 x 50g balls of Ornaghi Filati Butterfly; one pair 4 1/2 mm needles; 4 buttons.

Stitches
K1, p1 rib:
Row 1: *k1, p1*
Row 2 and foll rows: k the k sts and p the p sts as they face you
Stocking stitch (St st):
*knit 1 row, purl 1 row*

Gauge
13 sts and 19 rows to 10 cm in St st using size 4 1/2 mm needles.

Back
With size 4 1/2 mm needles cast on 62 sts. Work 4 rows in St st, purl 1 row. Cont in St st. Cast off 1 st at each end of every 4th row 6 times, work straight 16 rows then incr. 1 st at each end of every 4th row 3 times (=56 sts). Work straight until piece measures 29 cm from purl r. (=56 r.). Shape armholes. Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 1 sts at each end of next 2 alternate rows (=46 sts). Work even until piece measures 46 cm from purl r. (=88 r.). Shape neck. K to centre 20 sts and bind off, join a 2nd ball of yarn and k to end. Working with 2 balls of yarn, dec 2 st at each side of neck edge on foll alternate row. When piece measures 48 cm from purl r. (=92 r.) cast off rem. 11 sts.

Right front
With size 4 1/2 mm needles cast on 35 sts. Work 4 rows in St st, purl 1 row. Work: 4 sts in K1, p1 rib, 31 sts in St st. Cast off 1 st at side edge of every 4th row 6 times, work straight 16 rows then incr. 1 st at side edge of every 4th row 3 times (=32 sts). At the same time when work measures 7 cm from purl row work 4 rows: 13 sts in patt, 12 sts in K1, p1 rib. Cast off 12 sts in K1, p1 rib. Make pocket lining. With size 4 1/2 needles cast on 12 sts. Work 18 sts in St st. Next row: patt 13 sts, patt across 12 sts for pocket lining, patt to end. Cont in patt until piece measures 29 cm from purl r. (=56 r.). Shape armhole. Cast off at side edge every alt row 3 sts once, 1 st twice (=27 sts). Work straight until piece measures 43 cm from purl r. (=82 r.). Shape neck. Cast off at beg of next alt rows 9 sts once, 4 sts once, 1 st 3 times. Work straight until piece measures 48 cm from purl r. (=92 r.).Cast off rem. 11 sts. Work left front reversing shapings.

Sleeves
With size 4 1/2 mm needles cast on 35 sts. . Work 4 rows in St st, purl 1 row. Cont in St st. Cast off 1 st at each end of every 4th row 3 times, then incr. 1 st at each end of every 8th row 7 times (=43 sts). Work straight until piece measures 38 cm from purl r. (=72 r.). Shape the top of the sleeve. Cast off at beg of every row 3 sts once, 1 st 20 times. When work measures 49 cm from purl r. (=94 r.) cast off rem. 17 sts.

To make up
Fold borders along purl r. e sew. Join shoulders seams. Join sides. Sew in sleeves. With right side facing, using size 4 1/2 mm needles knit up 119 sts evenly around neck edge and work 4 rows in k1, p1 rib. Cast off. Work 4 loop buttonholes inside left front edge. Sew in buttons.
